Here’s a little anatomy info:

Dermatomes are areas of skin that receive sensations from sensory nerves exiting the spinal cord. These sensory nerves enter the nerve root at the spinal cord, and their branches reach to various parts of the body.

C = cervical, or nerves that exit the spine from the NECK

T = Thoracic, or nerves that exit the spine from the MIDBACK

L = Lumbar, or nerves that exit the spine from the LOW BACK

S = Sacral, or nerves that exit from the sacrum, or BASE OF SPINE

If you have tingling, numbness or pain in a certain area (dermatome) of the body represented on this diagram, it could actually be coming from a problem at the nerve root. For example, if you have pain or numbness that wraps around from your hip to the front of your thigh, it could be coming from the L3 nerve root.
